Besides eating calamari, Greek salad and large dish of garlic laden tzatziki along the waterfront in Santorini, our favorite thing to do is to go up the cable car, turn to the right and then just walk the wall and enjoy the most stunning views of the Greek Islands, or anywhere for that matter! As we walk along, we set our destination at “Dana’s” to have a nosh, a beverage, then enjoy the … [Read more...]

Not In My Backyard!

9 Sicily, Mt. Etna from Taormina

On this day we sailed into the bayof Naxos and it truly was morning glory!  The bay was calm and as the sun rose it lit the little Sicilian seaside resort town up beautifully! The sky was clear which offered an unsurpassed view of Europe’s tallest volcano Mt. Aetna (over 11,000 feet). As well, the beautiful Greco-Roman city on the hill,Taormina, was all so inviting! Naxos is a tender port, … [Read more...]

Doing the Sorrento Stroll!

Awe it was sure a lovely day! The fine weather, or so it appears, finally arrived. I got up, got dressed and got out the door to execute my first, and most important, duty of the day which is always to bring my wife coffee – no coffee – no work – that’s the deal! But as soon as I got up to deck six I felt the urge to run back to my cabin and grab my camera! Just outside there were a couple … [Read more...]

Don’t Worry – I Won’t Wear My Speedos!

As many of you may recall, we last served this winter season on SEVEN SEAS NAVIGATOR which sailed predominantly in the Caribbean. But, it also included a wonderful 23-night journey up and down the Amazon river. I must say, Dana and I really enjoyed that contract, as we call them! Truthfully, we did enjoy that stint far more than we thought we would, after all, it was ONLY the Caribbean! Plus, it … [Read more...]

Dana and I received word yesterday of the passing of one of our dearest cruising friends. Dr. Lloyd Tinkle passed away two days short of his 102nd birthday. Lloyd and his wife had cruised for many years starting out with Royal Viking Sun in the 1990’s.  While she passed away many years ago Lloyd kept on cruising, sailing on his first Regent Seven Seas Cruise (Formerly known as Radisson Seven … [Read more...]

Sailing Past History!

IMG_6163_B

This voyage was the 3rd time we sailed into San Juan, Puerto Rico just after noon. Each time I have been doing some sail-in commentary from the bridge as we were sailing past history entering its grand harbor.  EL MORRO, a fortress which guards the entrance to the harbor is a great photo opportunity. In 1983 it was declared a world heritage site. To those who have sailed into San Juan, … [Read more...]

Sunny Days, Calm Seas and Hot Jazz!

IMG_6277_B

We just completed another wonderful voyage in the Caribbean where we enjoyed sunny days, calm seas and hot jazz! It was one of our "Spotlight Cruises" and this time the topic was "Jazz!" Quite honestly, the thought of so many hours of jazz being held in our Galileo's Lounge (Recently rated as one of the 10 best lounges at sea - By Porthole Magazine's reader survey) only moderately appealed to … [Read more...]

A Different and Delightful Day!

For the second time now Seven Seas Navigator has returned to St. Maarten this winter season. The Island has become the second St. Thomas drawing boatloads of cruisers weekly. The ship tonnage is impressive to say the least! Most of those who come here have similar agendas - enjoy the beautiful water and beaches - shop t'ill they drop - or participate in the number one rated tour in the … [Read more...]
