My Tribute to a Terrific Traveler!

Jamie and lloyd B

Dana and I received word yesterday of the passing of one of our dearest cruising friends. Dr. Lloyd Tinkle passed away two days short of his 102nd birthday. Lloyd and his wife had cruised for many years starting out with Royal Viking Sun in the 1990’s.  While she passed away many years ago Lloyd kept on cruising, sailing on his first Regent Seven Seas Cruise (Formerly known as Radisson Seven … [Read more...]

Sailing Past History!

IMG_6163_B

This voyage was the 3rd time we sailed into San Juan, Puerto Rico just after noon. Each time I have been doing some sail-in commentary from the bridge as we were sailing past history entering its grand harbor.  EL MORRO, a fortress which guards the entrance to the harbor is a great photo opportunity. In 1983 it was declared a world heritage site. To those who have sailed into San Juan, … [Read more...]

Sunny Days, Calm Seas and Hot Jazz!

IMG_6277_B

We just completed another wonderful voyage in the Caribbean where we enjoyed sunny days, calm seas and hot jazz! It was one of our "Spotlight Cruises" and this time the topic was "Jazz!" Quite honestly, the thought of so many hours of jazz being held in our Galileo's Lounge (Recently rated as one of the 10 best lounges at sea - By Porthole Magazine's reader survey) only moderately appealed to … [Read more...]

A Different and Delightful Day!

For the second time now Seven Seas Navigator has returned to St. Maarten this winter season. The Island has become the second St. Thomas drawing boatloads of cruisers weekly. The ship tonnage is impressive to say the least! Most of those who come here have similar agendas - enjoy the beautiful water and beaches - shop t'ill they drop - or participate in the number one rated tour in the … [Read more...]

Christmastime is Here on Seven Seas Navigator!

IMG_6030

A few nights ago we gave our guests a Christmas surprise. We had loaded the Christmas decorations on board SEVEN SEAS NAVIGATOR in Ft. Luaderdale on November 28th and stored them away to way for just the right moment - one hour back on the clock! On that night at 11:00pm we held a shipwide decorating party. All available crew were to attend. Each department was assigned a particular area to … [Read more...]

Nine Hundred Miles Up River!

IMG_5785

V Cruisers, It was great to get back to Manaus which is located just about 900 miles up the Amazon river. This city went through a boom era in the late19th and early 20th centuries, when it supplied 90% of the world’s rubber. Rubber barons who lived in the city owned vast plantations and recruited local tribesmen to tap the rubber. The rubber barons (which totaled about 100 families) became … [Read more...]

The Mighty Amazon!

IMG_5659

Greetings Friends & Followers, It's been too long a time since my previous post and my apologies for that. Dana and I left home right after Thanksgiving, which was very nice by the way, and boarded the SEVEN SEAS NAVIGATOR on November 28th. Since then it has been nothing less than a whirlwind as we have pushed hard to get our department set up as we like it. We have not worked here in ten … [Read more...]

You’d Think They Would Have Known Better!

All decked out and ready to ride!

Veteran’s Day was, as expected, very special! Being able to lend a hand to Rico’s Café as they served up over 500 meals to local vets was an honor! Dana and I want to be a part of this whenever we are home on that holiday; however, next year we’re scheduled to be away. I want to add that many of these vets stayed around and ate for a long time and enjoyed many courses. This observation … [Read more...]

Recalling Those Remote and Lonely Places

Madang Voy Blog

As you know, two days from now on 11.11.11, especially, is the day which we honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States of America in all wars, particularly our living veterans. At 11:00am E.S.T. let us remember to also pause for two minutes of silence out of respect for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and for those still living whose lives were adversely changed … [Read more...]

A Ray of Sunshine!

ht_puppet_dm_111025_wg[1]

In case you missed it, this is a great little story about another long time cruise director who has now served Regent Seven Seas Cruises for several years, Ray Solaire. I found the article both interesting and entertaining. I though you might as well! http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/puppet-man-ray-sunshine-spent-entire-adult-sea/story?id=14811010 Puppet Man: Ray of Sunshine Spent Entire Adult Life … [Read more...]
