Regent Seven Seas Voyager’s 2011 World Cruise: Milford Sound, NZ

Regent's Seven Seas Voyager visits the New Zealand's Fiordland National Park.

Day 34 of 145 Today turned out to be the day of all days, as we enjoyed a triple treat sailing the Dusky, Doubtful and Milford Sounds! Fiordland National Park is a World Heritage Site. Ironically, Milford like Doubtful and Dusky, are all fiords (this is how the Kiwis spell it), but were incorrectly termed “sounds” by Captain Cook who charted the region in the 1770’s and is subsequently … [Read more...]

Regent Seven Seas Voyager’s 2011 World Cruise: Tauranga, NZ

Regent Seven Seas Voyager visits Tauranga, New Zealand and then cruise director Jamie Logan tours the resort district of Rotorua.

Day 29 of 145Tauranga is located on the southern coast of what Captain Cook named “The Bay of Plenty,” located on the north island of New Zealand. It’s a quaint resort town situated at the base of Mt. Maunganui, which is a worthwhile climb for a great view of the city. The city is also the gateway to Rotorua, New Zealand’s geothermal tourist hot spot, some 40 miles away. I have been to … [Read more...]

It is now New Zealand’s National Day which is celebrated on February … [Read more...]

Regent Seven Seas Voyager 2011 World Cruise: Bora Bora, French Polynesia

These two girls are cousins and they were so cute playing in the water. All of us took photographs of them and they seemed to like the attention.

Day 19 of 145: Beautiful Bora Bora!  I awoke this morning at 6:30am and what did I see but Mt. Otemanu starring right at me through our window. The sail-in is stunning with the view the mountain, the passing of a couple small islands, the various shades of turquoise water and having cruise through the natural opening in the coral reef. You know well before you get there that this place is … [Read more...]

Regent Seven Seas Voyager’s 2011 World Cruise: Papeete, Tahiti

Regent Seven Seas Cruises 2011 World Cruise visits Papeete, Tahiti.

Day 19 of 145: Terrific Tahiti! Yesterday we were in Tahiti and just about everyone of our guests got out on tour. It was planning day to get us to Auckland, so we were all in the office all day. We have several more sea days before then and there is a lot to prepare for our program.  I brought on a local show that performed at 5:45pm and then we sailed at 7:00pm. The name of my local … [Read more...]

Seven Seas Voyager’s 2011 World Cruise: Moorea, French Polynesia

Day 17 of 145: Magnificent Moorea! I got up at six for the sail-in this morning and joined many up on deck 12, but the mountains were overcast and nature did not put on the most spectacular of shows. Dana and I were able to host a snorkeling tour. We were to cruise by boat to a spot where we could pet wild stingrays, which I knew was on the agenda. We had done it before in Grand … [Read more...]

Regent Seven Seas Voyager 2011 World Cruise: Crossing the Equator

Regent Seven Seas Voyager Equator Crossing

We crossed the equator and are now sailing in the Southern Hemisphere. One of our many speakers is a terrific Astronomer, Dr. Norman Caisse, who has done a couple stargazing sessions up on the top deck. Last night the skies were clear and many guests turned up to see the Southern Cross and other stars and constellations that are not visible in the Northern Hemisphere. We also held the time … [Read more...]

2011 Regent World Cruise: Seven Seas Voyager Visits Honolulu, Hawaii

We are docked next to the Aloha Tower. Once the tallest structure on the island!

DAY 7 of 145. Aloha! Which, of course, means “hello” or ‘good-bye” and sometimes even “I love you”.     Our first of two full days in Honolulu was spectacular! It was warm, sunny and Waikiki Beach was full of tourist from the northeast USA, or so it seemed, who were warming their chilled bones and reddening their skin. We were able to get out and … [Read more...]

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – February 6th, 2010

Great shot of our Voyager sailing by the Sydney Opera House.

Finally, we made it to Sydney where 25 years ago Dana and I had our first date (though it wasn’t really a “date”) for a dink in a jazz bar “on the rocks” (just above where our ship docks) and then the next day to the Taranga Zoo. This incredible city is in my top ten list for spectacular places to sail into. Unfortunately we had a lot of rain each of the two days but it is still just … [Read more...]

NOUMEA, NEW CALEDONIA – February 3rd, 2010

VOY and Opera house2

Next stop was Noumea, New Caledonia which is a great stop, as well. I managed to take a little time and do a bike ride (I keep my bike on board) down the coast where I watched some incredible wind and kite surfing displays. Wow! Was that ever great! I had no local money and not enough time but I sure wanted to get out and sailboard with the rest of them. … [Read more...]

PORT VILA, VANUATU – February 2nd, 2010

Yes, paradise!

Then we made call at Vanuatu – there was also a Survivor there a few years ago – which is a beautiful Island, so lush and green. Actually there are 83 islands in the chain. Port Vila has a wonderful cascading water fall that we took a taxi to and climbed up. It was a terrific photo opportunity and we filmed another Jamie’s Journey which also turned out well.   … [Read more...]

FIJI…Bulla, bulla!

Vanu_Falls_JD

From there we headed to one of our favorite island stops which was to be Samoa. Unfortunately, there was another cyclone in the are and we ended up heading through 30 foot waves and fell so far behind in our arrival time the Captain had to make the decision there to cancel the call (we were a full days sail away) and head for the island of Fiji instead. The guests enjoyed a very nice day there and … [Read more...]

We filmed one of what we call our Jamie’s Journeys there which turned out … [Read more...]
