Day #50 of 145 On February 25th we sailed from Brisbane with one extra guest, Captain Peter Martin has been our Reef Pilot for the last eight days and he will leave in Darwin tomorrow morning. A Reef Pilot is asssigned to all ships, even military ships, that ply the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Day 34 of 145 Today turned out to be the day of all days, as we enjoyed a triple treat sailing the Dusky, Doubtful and Milford Sounds! Fiordland National Park is a World Heritage Site. Day 19 of 145: Beautiful Bora Bora! I awoke this morning at 6:30am and what did I see but Mt. Otemanu starring right at me through our window. Day 19 of 145: Terrific Tahiti! Yesterday we were in Tahiti and just about everyone of our guests got out on tour. It was planning day to get us to Auckland, so we were all in the office all day. Day 17 of 145: Magnificent Moorea! I got up at six for the sail-in this morning and joined many up on deck 12, but the mountains were overcast and nature did not put on the most spectacular of shows. We crossed the equator and are now sailing in the Southern Hemisphere. One of our many speakers is a terrific Astronomer, Dr. Norman Caisse, who has done a couple stargazing sessions up on the top deck. Last night the skies were clear and many guests turned up to see the Southern Cross and other stars and constellations that are not visible in the Northern Hemisphere. DAY 7 of 145. Aloha! Which, of course, means “hello” or ‘good-bye” and sometimes even “I love you”. Our first of two full days in Honolulu was spectacular! We just finished up two more wonderful days at sea and today spent the day in Cairns, Eastern Australia, which it the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef – also one of the best places to rollerblade. Finally, we made it to Sydney where 25 years ago Dana and I had our first date (though it wasn’t really a “date”) for a dink in a jazz bar “on the rocks” (just above where our ship docks) and then the next day to the Taranga Zoo. Next stop was Noumea, New Caledonia which is a great stop, as well. I managed to take a little time and do a bike ride (I keep my bike on board) down the coast where I watched some incredible wind and kite surfing displays. Wow! Was that ever great! Then we made call at Vanuatu – there was also a Survivor there a few years ago – which is a beautiful Island, so lush and green. Actually there are 83 islands in the chain. Port Vila has a wonderful cascading water fall that we took a taxi to and climbed up. From there we headed to one of our favorite island stops which was to be Samoa. Unfortunately, there was another cyclone in the are and we ended up heading through 30 foot waves and fell so far behind in our arrival time the Captain had to make the decision there to cancel the call (we were a full days sail away) and head for the island of Fiji instead. Nuku Hiva turned out great! We held a special event for our guests to attend shore side. While there Dana met a local who ended up taking us all over the Island – well actually you can really only go so far there – but we say what there was to see and even made it over the Survivor site where they filmed in 2002.
