A Friendly Stroll Through Nafplion, Greece... Nafplion is located inGreece’s Peloponnese region and is only a two hour drive from Athens. It is the gateway to ancient Corinth and the Corinth Canal. As you will see by my photos it was a glorious day and our guests, about 600 of them, stepped out to tour our first port of call for this voyage. I have done the tours here in years … [Read more...]

We are currently sailing on a simply terrific voyage fromVenice to Monte Carlo and it is a Spotlight on Opera Cruise.  At Regent we actually have quite a few “Spotlight Programs.” These are “value added” events.  It doesn’t mean that we do away with our regular programs and entertainment, we are simply adding to it. You can find these programs listed on the RSSC.com website under … [Read more...]

Seven Seas Voyager visits Marvelous Monemvasia, Greece

IMG_4986

To my Vicarious Cruisers, Well, what can I say? Last cruise just sailed right by us and now we are well in to our second voyage back. The only place we managed to slip a shore for an hour or so was at marvelous Monemvasia. This was my first call ever to this Gibraltar–like rock island, situated on the Southern coast of Greece’s Peloponnese andI felt I had to see it and, of course, our … [Read more...]

Regent Seven Seas Voyager’s 2011 World Cruise: Beaux Bordeaux!

Regent Seven Seas Voyager Visits Bordeaux on its 2011 World Cruise

Day 142 of 145 It was sure great to get back here in the world’s wine capital - we just love this city!  This region has been producing wine since the 8th century. It is about a 6 1/2 hour cruise up the Garonne River to get here. It is a lovely city that looked even more lovely than the last time we were visited. We spent a Friday and a Saturday here and our guests were … [Read more...]

A Farewell To Arms

p76

What’s that? Hemingway? No, this certainly has nothing to do with Ernest, though he was my kind of guy because he certainly was a traveler!  Come to think of it, I have been cruising so long sometimes I do feel like I have become The Old Man and the Sea! Instead, this post is about the little farewell meal Dana and I enjoyed on the pier of Santorini during our last visit, shortly before … [Read more...]

The Perfect Pesto in “Portofantastic!”(Portofino)

Before...

V Cruisers, This was the last stop of the season in Portofantasic (Portofino) and it turned out to be a glorious day for our guests – and a pretty perfect day for us as well. The seas were calm and the morning sun shown brightly down on the entrace to the port as we tendered off 600 hundred guests who were on tour. Most sailed away from the ship with great anticipation of the day to … [Read more...]

It’s Time for a Change!

Seven Seas Mariner at dock in Monte Carlo.

V Cruisers, I took an hour off to climb the hill of Monte Carlo.  Now, when I say the “hill” I do mean the hill and NOT the “mountain.” Right next to our ship is a path and even an  elevator that will take you up to the Monte Carlo Aquarium – which I have seen before and is definitely worth seeing. But from there begins a delightful walk up the street past some … [Read more...]

Ship Loads of Fun!

Five ships in view at the dock in Civitavecchia, Italy.

On this sunny day we are docked in Civitavecchia, Italy - the gateway to Rome, but we are far from alone. There is a whopping 9 cruise ships in port today. Just for fun I went on line and did a little research and math. Now if my math is right and it may not be because I ran out of fingers…I calculate there to be just over 800,000 tons of cruise vessels and 20,000 passengers in port! My gosh!  … [Read more...]

My, My, My, Do I Love Mykonos!

Seven Seas MarinerAnchored off Delos.

This week Seven Seas Mariner was scheduled to do something special, something that not many ships get to do.  What I am alluding to is that we were to call at the Island of Delos which is just five nautical miles and just around the corner from Mykonos. For those ships that call only at Mykonos, it’s not difficult to book a boat excursion to Delos, but to do so is just a bit much out of … [Read more...]

Holy Wow!

The ancient windmills sure would have be spinning on this day!

Greetings from Piraeus (Athens) Greece. We just finished a most awesome voyage (if I say so myself after all these years)!  It was truly great - Halelujah! You can view the itinerary from the itinerary page on this blog. This trip there were some truly wonderful highlights.  The first day of the voyage we were had to make lemonade out of a lemon. Mykonos was to be our first port, however, … [Read more...]
